When you are in Hawaii on vacation the last thing you think about is showing network marketing leadership. Isn’t this the time to disconnect, to rest and relax, and to rejuvenate? Absolutely and it is also a time to show your network marketing leadership.
I have a team on Oahu in Hawaii. This was a team that had been neglected because their senior leadership abandoned them. I was given the team as part of a distribution of this leader’s entire organization and I was going to be in Hawaii in June/July.
Now I could have said that I was on vacation and did not want to work my business, that this was a dormant group and what could they possibly have to offer. In addition, I was going to be on Maui, not Oahu. That would mean getting flights and perhaps a hotel not to mention hauling all my stuff to the site. But I didn’t say any of this.
Connecting with them was also a challenge. Their immediate leaders were also not working the business. Round and round I went and finally found a leader who did an introduction between me and the leader in Oahu. We arranged a date that worked for her and her team. She agreed to invite, invite, invite and to bring her team in in the morning. So, we had a plan – training in the morning on all the products because they had not heard about any of the new products and she arranged two presentations with 20 people in each.
The result of taking leadership and re-invigorating a team was for me: re-qualifying at rank, getting a bonus for volume, and getting a bonus Just Because. The team brought in 5 new people of which 2 became managers; they increased in rank and got a bonus as well. They were really jazzed!
It must have been the energy because I also had individual presentations with two other folks on Maui and they also joined my team. All this just because I stepped into leadership, had a vision for my Hawaii team that they could believe in, and did what it took to make it happen.
Network Marketing Leadership is not always convenient. It does not recognize vacation or downtime. When you step into it, step up and out, it grabs you and excites you to be more than you think you can be. I teach The Art of Herding Cats: Leading Teams of Leaders for just this purpose. I know that when you take the leadership challenge and own your leadership, opportunities will abound for you just like they did for me. Now whenever I go to Hawaii, I have a team of folks to visit and be a part of their lives. Join me and take the first steps to having local, national and global influence to make change happen in the future. The world is waiting for you – Be Courageous, Dare2Lead!
